Researchers from the World Bank published a new study warning that central banks could cause some serious problems for consumers as they attempt to solve skyrocketing prices.

"The world may be edging toward a global recession in 2023,” World Bank researchers wrote in the study.

Reports said the researchers argued that central banks are raising interest rates and pulling liquidity from markets to reduce consumer prices.

This year, the Federal Reserve of the United States raised four times its rates.

And according to the World Bank, the continuing disruptions in supply and pressures in the labor market could result in the continued increase in rates through 2023 "until average global interest rates hit almost 6% to control core inflation—which excludes volatile food and energy prices."

Reports said the researchers argued that policy changes are “necessary to contain inflationary pressures” over the long term.

Researchers said the previous recessions proved the dangers of allowing inflation to remain elevated during periods of fading economic growth.

In 1981-82 recession, more than 40 nations experienced sinking economic growth and debt crises for over a decade.
