Australia Progresses to World Cup Quarterfinals on the Back of Victory over Denmark, with Sam Kerr's First Apperance in the Tournament

At the Women's World Cup, the Australian side rejoiced after scoring the first goal versus Denmark, as shown in the picture.

At Stadium Australia in Sydney, Australia's co-hosts were spurred on by the large crowd of 75,784 people to a 2-0 win against Denmark, securing them a berth in the quarterfinals of the Women's World Cup.

Exuberant supporters of Matilda's were overjoyed when Sam Kerr, the star striker, entered the game in the second half after having been absent from the group games because of a calf injury. This marked her first appearance at the World Cup.

The home team Australia moved quickly to gain the advantage, with Mary Fowler's pass to Caitlin Foord down the left resulting in a low shot which Lene Christensen, the Danish goalkeeper, was unable to stop.

Despite their best efforts, Denmark was not able to score the tying goal as they attempted to tie the game. Australia widened the gap when Hayley Raso placed the ball into the lower corner of the net in the middle of the second half.

On Saturday, the final eight of the tournament will be decided as Australia takes on either France or Morocco.
