Australian footballer Sam Kerr will become the first female player to grace the global cover of EA Sports' FIFA football game.

Chelsea striker Kerr will appear alongside Paris St-Germain and France striker Kylian Mbappe on the cover of the popular video game.

"Two phenomenal forces up front. One ultimate strike partnership," EA Sports FIFA said in the announcement on July 18.

Kerr won the Golden Boot in 2021 and 2022 as the top scorer in the Women's Super League (WSL).

Kerr helped Chelsea win the WSL title by scoring 20 goals.

Kerr also won the Professional Footballers' Association players' player of the year.

The video game franchise previously featured female players on regional covers, including American Alex Morgan and Canadian Christine Sinclair, alongside Argentinian Lionel Messi, on the North American editions of FIFA 16.

EA Sports releases a new edition of the game every year, but this year's edition will be the final FIFA branded game by the developer as their partnership will come to an end.
