A man died after falling from an escalator at Acrisure Stadium during a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets on Oct. 2.

The Pittsburgh Police and Emergency Medical Services responded to the fall around 4:45 p.m. local time.

Sources told KDKA that the man fell an estimated 40 feet.

Paramedics treated the victim on scene and transported him in critical condition to a local hospital, but he later passed from his injuries, the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department said.

An investigation is ongoing.

Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten said in a statement to USA Today Sports that they "are aware of an unfortunate incident that occurred inside Acrisure Stadium today."

"We are working with local authorities and helping their investigation into the matter," Lauten further said.

The Steelers lost 24-20 to the Jets.
