Portugal's Doctor Ricardo Jorge National Health Institute (INSA) reported that 13 members of the  football club Belenenses SAD tested positive for the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

"A batch of 13 positive samples associated with cases of infection in Belenenses SAD players, given that one of the cases positives must have had a recent trip to South Africa. It also analyzed samples from 218 passengers on a flight originating in Maputo that landed, on November 27, at Lisbon airport" said INSA.

INSA added that those who had close contact with the players and the passengers would have to undergo quarantine and testing.

INSA added that it was continuing to monitor the entry of the new Omicron variant in the country and is aware of the current situation worldwide.
