Team captain and goalkeeper of the women's team Netherlands Sari van Veenendaal said on Friday that she was ready to retire.

"I no longer want to be on the pitch every day and to get the most out of it every day," van Veenendaal said.

According to reports, van Veenendaal, 32, posted on social media that it is the right time for her to do different things.

"It's time to explore different things. It's my decision to say goodbye, and this moment feels as the right moment," van Veenendaal said.

Van Veenendaal played 90 games for the national team since her debut in 2011, won the Golden Glove award at the 2019 World Cup, and was a part of the European team that received the Championship triumph in 2017.

Van Veenendaal, also the keeper for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, suffered a shoulder injury in the Netherlands' first game of the 2022 Women's European Championship and sat out the remainder of the Dutch campaign.
