The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Monday that Russian clubs are barred from competing in the Champions League and all other European competitions next season.

"Russia will have no affiliated clubs participating in UEFA club competitions in the 2022/23 season," UEFA said in a statement.

The Russian team was also ruled out of the Women's European Championship, which will be held in England in July.

Russia's football federation initially filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, only to withdraw its legal challenge last month.

Similarly, FIFA also kicked Russia's national team out of the qualifying competition for this year's World Cup in Qatar, just days before a crucial play-off match against Poland back in March.

UEFA also recently ended its sponsorship agreement with Russian state energy giant Gazprom.

Saint Petersburg was set to host this season's Champions League final before UEFA stripped the city of the game following the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and instead granted the game to Paris.
